Sometimes, we need something powerful to get things to shift.

That’s why we offer 3 and 6 hour EMDR Intensives, to help us dig deep and make powerful progress in the treatment of trauma and other mental health issues.

What can I expect from an EMDR Intensive Treatment?

  • What is EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) is a powerful, evidence-based, therapeutic technique that has helped many to work toward recovery from traumatic experiences. It involves moving your eyes or tapping your body in a specific pattern while processing traumatic memories to help the brain reprocess distressing life experiences. While new, EMDR has been found to be an effective way to heal from trauma more quickly and thoroughly than many other methods.

  • Why do an intensive?

EMDR often allows us to make quicker progress than other therapy methods by using the brain’s natural healing capabilities, and the EMDR Intensives allow us to “stack” multiple weeks of therapy into one day.

EMDR Intensives are a great way to build on existing therapy when you feel you have become stagnant, as a way to prepare for a particularly challenging life event, or as a way to begin a deeply therapeutic journey.

  • Am I a good candidate for an EMDR Intensive?

Just in the same way that you might do training ahead of a marathon, it is a good idea to talk with Emily or your own therapist about ways you should prepare for an EMDR Intensive. Clients who are a great fit for these would have an existing foundation of coping strategies, and a support system in place. They would not be undergoing major changes with medications, and would have stability and safety in their home life. Clients who are struggling with suicidal ideation with any level of plan/intent should work to stabilize these thoughts before doing an EMDR Intensive. We can help you prepare for an intensive, at our typical psychotherapy rate.

  • What is the price?

The cost of an Intensive, like the rest of our services, is based on your yearly income.

    Income Tiers:

    Under $50,000: $150 per hour
    $50,000-$100,000: $175
    $100,000-$150,000: $250
    $150,000+: $300

Please note that Intensives are not covered by insurance at this time, and will also not qualify for out of network reimbursement. However, we do accept FSA/HSA cards.

Meet the Intensive Clinicians

  • I specialize in the treatment of trauma. I am trained in EMDR, Brainspotting, Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD, and MBSR, and I have significant experience with somatic psychotherapy, CBT, DBT, Seeking Safety, STAIR, and polyvagal theory. I always practice through a trauma-informed lens, and inform my practice through ongoing continuing education and individual work around cultural competency, systemic injustice, and personal privilege. My work is informed by cutting-edge research and techniques that reflect the amazing progress we have made in learning about how the brain and body respond to trauma, and how we can embrace the potential of neuroplasticity to harness our inherent capacity for recovery and growth.

My approach is empowering and person-centered, and I would describe my presence as warm, genuine, and grounding. I want to create a space where we can be real- laugh, let tears flow, swear, be sarcastic, be ourselves. As a trauma survivor, I am passionate about providing quality, effective, and compassionate care for survivors and those who are seeking support. I strive to create a therapeutic space that is safe for all. I want you to know that my greatest strength in the work that I do is being able to truly sit with you, in whatever you are experiencing, as a totally non-judgmental and supportive presence.

In addition to my work in private practice, and my lived experience as a survivor myself, I gained invaluable experience in the treatment of trauma through the Dept. of Veterans Affairs, the Trauma Institute, and under the teaching of David Grand, Ph D. I am the Founder and Director of a nationwide non-profit addressing issues of systemic injustice within the mental health system, and I am working to build a group practice that offers a truly warm and safe place for clients to receive treatment, and for therapists to have an awesome place to work, both using a social-justice-informed lens.
