Kayla Elder, LCSW (she/her)
Kayla’s schedule is currently full and she is not taking on new clients.
Welcome! My name is Kayla (she/her), I am a trauma-informed and culturally competent Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Supporting individuals on their mental health journey is my passion. Finding a new therapist can sometimes feel overwhelming, but I believe in creating a warm and welcoming space for my clients to feel accepted, safe, and motivated in. I take a client-centered approach to therapy and feel strongly that a person should be in the driver’s seat of their own wellness. It is my goal to facilitate empowerment in my clients and to give them the tools to reach their goals throughout the treatment process.
I received both my BSW and MSW at SUNY Albany and have been living and practicing in upstate New York ever since. I have ample experience working with adults who have experienced trauma, neurodivergent individuals, and clients who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as those who struggle with severe mental illness. I take a client-centered and trauma-informed approach to treatment and often draw on a variety of evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). In taking an eclectic approach to therapy, I am able to meet my clients where they’re at and make treatment planning a collaboration while utilizing techniques that best fit each individual. A core value of mine as a practitioner is to form a healthy therapeutic bond based on empathy, openness, and non-judgement; this will allow me to best support my clients in achieving their goals while being their most authentic self in a safe and trusted environment.
Just a bit about myself: I am a Star Trek aficionado, an expert at Lego video games, and a mom to a sweet one-eyed black cat named Ajani. I enjoy listening to audiobooks and creative writing in my spare time.
